Eco-Friendly solutions to fishing and marine conservation
Did you know that recreational fishing practices contribute to over 1/3 of the world’s over-exploited fish stocks? They are the leading cause for the declining populations of native fish species. At least 220 million people go fishing for fun every year all around the world and that exceeds the industrial-scale commercial fishing by far. What is more startling is that much of these recreational anglers practice catch and release fishing, and yet end up harming the fish. That’s where our product comes to the rescue, EZRelease, a non-piercing fishhook that is designed to help recreational anglers fish without hurting/killing their catch. It uses a spring mechanism that expands within the fish’s mouth to hold it in place without causing any incisions or wounds. We gathered information and positive feedback through user testing from experienced anglers as well as novice fishermen to ensure that our design is both effective and reliable. Our target audience is specifically recreational fishermen and we have created an extremely user-friendly hook ideal for catch-and-release fishing. Ultimately, our goal is to create a high quality product which enables fishermen to be environmentally conscious and enjoy the pleasure of fishing without having to worry about the moral implications.
